The days seem to pass so quickly, one blurring into the next. Time has become a blur. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older (I will be 58 this year) or because running a small business is always a bit of rushing about...maybe it's because my youngest children will be heading off to college in a couple years and there is a sense of time running out or possibly it's because we just wrapped up the whirlwind called Maryland Sheep and Wool. Whatever, the reason, it seems like one day finishes and another begins before I've had enough time to process it, either mentally or emotionally.
It takes time to write a blog. It's not always the fastest or the easiest way to communicate. For sheer communication speed, not much beats social media, right? The issue is, though, that as relatively easy as social media is, it really isn't all that personal. I try to always write a bit in the photo description about whatever I've posted a photo, but it's not like you would ever pour yourself a cup of tea and settle in to read it, right? Everyone looks at the picture, reads the caption (there are far more of you out there reading than I ever believed until I asked about it last week - Thank you!), and swipes up to the next photo. I feel like my days are a bit like this also - take in the information, do what needs to be done, and swipe on to the next task. At the end of the day, I can't even remember what exactly I did or how I spent my day. How wonderful it would be to take a step back in time to when blogging was more common and people took time to write about what was going on. To pour a cup of tea and slow down and spend the time writing about what the studio is dyeing, what colorways I'm designing and why, what projects are on my needles, etc...You then, could sit down and relax and immerse yourself into the happenings around here. Both you and I could slow down and take a little bit of time to get to know one another a little better.
I thought about podcasting - everyone seems to love putting on a podcast and listening to it while they are doing something else. But I wanted to slow down the moments a bit more. Write with intention. Dye with intention. Craft with intention...try to grasp, for a few moments, the time so swiftly passing us all by.
If you are new here - welcome! Whether you are new or are already familiar with Fiber Optic Yarns, you are invited to settle in here on Friday afternoons (beginning this Friday June 16th) if you have a few minutes to see what has been happening here...or what we are going to try to make happen...or how we put the colors together for a project...or possibly a bit of fiber-y science...it really could be just about anything.
Comments will be approved before showing up.
